On Top of the World

April 21st, 2009 by Sean

Our flight from Toronto flew direct to Hong Kong.  I was expecting to fly over Vancouver or LA, but instead we went over the top of Canada, Greenland and Russia.  We then flew straight down over China all the way down to Hong Kong.

Along the way we saw some spectacular views of the Arctic both in Canada:

And over Siberia:

The in-flight tracking system was pretty swank, showing our location the entire way. It even had an external camera, although it was mostly just a cloudy picture of empty sky :)

I might never visit the Arctic, but at least I got to see it with my very own eyes and even snap a picture or two of it. Now that’s what I call a sweet bonus!

  • WOW! I would love to see the ture north of our beautiful country – although the cold, ice and snow conditions kind of make it a destination spot – NOT! (Plus, we have enough of that down here in the Maritimes!) Can’t wait to see more photos!

  • amazing babe!
    Nice surprise!

  • At the top of the world! Wow! :D This just keeps getting better…

  • The Arctic as seen from high above is fairly impressive, as you now know. Seen from smack-in-the-middle, perhaps it’s more majestic and immediate, but in the main it’s frickin’ cold.

You got the better tour, methinks. Thanks for the update!

  • I love the other photos that come up when you click on the photos on this post, but you need to add information :) Looking forward to more posts soon! I knwo you are back in Malang now so hopefully there is better internet access :)

  • Simply stunning.

And I’m hungry now, thank you very much, due to your food pictures.
